ಏಕಾದಶ ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಭೂಯ ಏವಹಿ ರಾಜೇಂದ್ರ ಶೃಣುಮೇ ವಚನಂ ಹಿತಮ್ |
ಯಥಾ ಸ ದೇವಪ್ರವರಃ ಕಥಾಯಾಂ ಏವಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

Oh King of Kings ! Please listen to my words. The wise seer in his discourse also told the following.

ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕೂಣಾಂ ಕುಲೇ ಜಾತೋ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ ಸುಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಃ |
ರಾಜಾ ದಶರಥೋ ನಾಮ್ನಾ ಶ್ರೀಮಾನ್ ಸತ್ಯಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರವಃ ||
ಅಂಗರಾಜ್ಯೇನ ಸಖ್ಯಂ ಚ ತಸ್ಯ ರಾಜ್ಞೋ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ |
ಕನ್ಯಾಚಾಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾಭಾಗಾ ಶಾಂತಾ ನಾಮ ಭವಿಷ್ಯತಿ ||
ಪುತ್ರಸ್ತು ಸಃ ಅಂಗರಾಜಸ್ಯ ರೋಮಪಾದ ಇತಿ ಶ್ರುತಃ |
ತಂ ಸ ರಾಜಾ ದಶರಥೋ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯತಿ ಮಹಾಯಶಾಃ ||

" In the line of Ikshwakus there will be a King named Dasaratha who will be known as a righteous and follower of truth. That king develops friendship with the ruler of Anga and he will have a daughter by name Shanta. That king of Anga has a son Romapada who becomes the ruler. Dasaratha approaches Romapada.

ಅನಪತ್ಯೋsಸ್ಮಿ ಧರ್ಮಾತ್ಮಾನ್ ಶಾಂತಾ ಭರ್ತಾ ಮಮಕ್ರತುಮ್ |
ಅಹರೇತ ತ್ವಯಾsಜ್ಞಪ್ತಃ ಸಂತಾನಾರ್ಥಂ ಕುಲಸ್ಯ ಚ ||
ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ರಾಜ್ಞೋsಥ ತದ್ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಮನಸಾ ಸ ವಿಚಿಂತ್ಯ ಚ |
ಪ್ರದಾಸ್ಯತೇ ಪುತ್ತ್ರವಂತಂ ಶಾಂತಾಭರ್ತಾರಮಾತ್ಮವಾನ್ ||
ಪ್ರತಿಗೃಹ್ಯ ಚ ತಂ ವಿಪ್ರಂ ಸ ರಾಜಾ ವಿಗತ ಜ್ವರಃ |
ಅಹರಿಷ್ಯತಿ ತಂ ಯಜ್ಞಂ ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟೇ ನಾಂತರಾತ್ಮನಾ ||

"Oh The righteous one ! I do not have progeny . Let the husband of your daughter Shanta be permitted to perform the sacrifice for the propagation of my race". Hearing those words of the King Dasaratha and having thought over the same the King Romapada sends the husband of Shanta to participate in the sacrifice for extending the line of Ikshwakus. Rid of his worries Dasaratha takes along that Brahman for performing the sacrifice."

ತಂ ಚ ರಾಜಾ ದಶರಥೋ ಯಷ್ಟುಕಾಮಃ ಕೃತಾಂಜಲಿಃ |
ಋಷ್ಯಶೃಂಗಂ ದ್ವಿಜಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠಂ ವರಯಿಷ್ಯತಿ ಧರ್ಮವಿತ್ ||
ಯಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥಂ ಪ್ರಸವಾರ್ಥಂ ಚ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಾರ್ಥಂ ಚ ನರೇಶ್ವರಃ |
ಲಭತೇ ಚ ಸ ತಂ ಕಾಮಂ ದ್ವಿಜಮುಖ್ಯಾದ್ವಿಶಾಂ ಪತಿಃ ||
ಪುತ್ತ್ರಾಶ್ಚಾಸ್ಯ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಂತಿ ಚತ್ವಾರೋ ಅಮಿತವಿಕ್ರಮಾಃ |
ವಂಶ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾನಕರಾಃ ಸರ್ವಲೋಕೇಷು ವಿಶ್ರುತಾಃ ||

King Dasaratha desirous of performing the sacrifice requests with folded hands that Brahman for conducting the sacrifice for obtaining progeny. With the help of that Brahman the king succeeds in getting his wishes fulfilled. That king will have four valorous sons. They will enhance the prestige of the Ikshwakus. They will be known in all the three worlds.

ಏವಂ ಸ ದೇವಪ್ರವರಃ ಪೂರ್ವಂ ಕಥಿತವಾನ್ ಕಥಾಮ್ |
ಸನತ್ಕುಮಾರೋ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಪುರಾ ದೇವಯುಗೇ ಪ್ರಭುಃ ||
ಸ ತ್ವಂ ಪುರುಷ ಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ತಮಾನಯ ಸುಸತ್ಕೃತಮ್ |
ಸ್ವಯಮೇವ ಮಹಾರಾಜ ಗತ್ವಾ ಸ ಬಲವಾಹನಃ ||
ಅನುಮಾನ್ಯ ವಶಿಷ್ಠಂ ಚ ಸೂತವಾಕ್ಯಂ ನಿಶಮ್ಯ ಚ |
( ವಸಿಷ್ಠೇನಾಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತೋ ರಾಜಾ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣಮಾನಸಃ )
ಸಾಂತಃಪುರ ಸ್ಸಹಾಮಾತ್ಯಃ ಪ್ರಯಯೌ ಯತ್ರ ಸ ದ್ವಿಜಃ ||

Oh King! That is prophecy the wise seer told in the earlier Yuga . Oh King you should yourself along with your forces go forthwith and bring the Sage Rishyasrumga." Following the advice of Sumantra, king Dasaratha having taken the permission of Sage Vashista went along with his ministers as well as his queens to the place of that Brahman.

ವನಾನಿ ಸರಿತಶ್ಚೈವ ವ್ಯತಿಕ್ರಮ್ಯ ಶನೈಃ ಶನೈಃ |
ಅಭಿಚಕ್ರಾಮ ತಂ ದೇಶಂ ಯತ್ರವೈ ಮುನಿಪುಂಗವಃ ||
ಆಸಾದ್ಯ ತಂ ದ್ವಿಜಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠಂ ರೋಮಪಾದ ಸಮೀಪಗಮ್ |
ಋಷಿಪುತ್ರಂ ದದರ್ಶಾದೌ ದೀಪ್ಯಮಾನಮಿವಾನಲಮ್ ||
ತತೋ ರಾಜಾ ಯಥಾ ನ್ಯಾಯಂ ಪೂಜಾಂ ಚಕ್ರೇ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ |
ಸಖಿತ್ವಾತ್ ತಸ್ಯ ವೈ ರಾಜ್ಞಃ ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟೇನಾಂತರಾತ್ಮನಾ ||

Crossing the lakes and rivers slowly the king reached the place where the seer is staying. The king saw the Brahman resplendent as fire sitting near the King Romapada. The king Romapada there upon offered special worship to King Dasaratha remembering his friendship with him.

ರೋಮಪಾದೇನ ಚಾಖ್ಯಾತಮ್ ಋಷಿಪುತ್ರಾಯ ಧೀಮತೇ |
ಸಖ್ಯಂ ಸಬಂಧಕಂ ಚೈವ ತದಾ ತಂ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಪೂಜಯತ್ ||
ಏವಂ ಸುಸತ್ಕೃತಸ್ತೇನ ಸಹೋಷಿತ್ವಾ ನರರ್ಷಭಃ |
ಸಪ್ತಾಷ್ಟದಿವಸಾನ್ ರಾಜಾ ರಾಜಾನಮ್ ಇದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

Romapada enlightened Rishyasrumga about his friendship with king Dasaratha. Then the seer offered worship to the king Dasaratha. Having thus received the worship of the king Romapada, and spent seven eight days, king Dasaratha spoke to Romapada.

ಶಾಂತಾ ತವ ಸುತಾ ರಾಜನ್ ಸಹ ಭರ್ತ್ರಾ ವಿಶಾಂಪತೇ |
ಮದೀಯಂ ನಗರಂ ಯಾತು ಕಾರ್ಯಂ ಹಿ ಮಹದುದ್ಯತಮ್ ||
ತಥೇತಿ ರಾಜಾ ಸಂಶ್ರುತ್ಯ ಗಮನಂ ತಸ್ಯ ಧೀಮತಃ |
ಉವಾಚ ವಚನಂ ವಿಪ್ರಂ ಗಚ್ಚತ್ವಂ ಸಹ ಭಾರ್ಯಯಾ ||
ಋಷಿಪುತ್ರಃ ಪ್ರತಿಶ್ರುತ್ಯ ತಥೇತ್ಯಾಹ ನೃಪಂ ತದಾ |
ಸ ನೃಪೇಣಾಭ್ಯನುಜ್ಞಾತಃ ಪ್ರಯಯೌ ಸಹ ಭಾರ್ಯಯಾ ||
ತಾ ವನ್ಯೋನ್ಯಾಂಜಲಿಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಸ್ನೇಹಾತ್ ಸಂಶ್ಲಿಷ್ಯ ಚೋರಸಾ |
ನನಂದತುರ್ದಶರಥೋ ರೋಮಪಾದಶ್ಚ ವೀರ್ಯವಾನ್ ||

Oh King Please send your daughter and her husband to our kingdom since a great event is to take place there. Romapada gave his agreement for Rishyasrumga to proceed to Ayodhya. The son of the seer too agreed and proceeded to Ayodhya along with his wife. Greeting with palms joined and embracing each other both Romapada and mighty Dasaratha rejoiced.

ತತ ಸುಹೃದಮಾಪೃಚ್ಛ್ಯ ಪ್ರಸ್ಥಿತೋ ರಘುನಂದನಃ |
ಪೌರೇಭ್ಯಃ ಪ್ರೇಷಯಾಮಾಸ ದೂತಾನ್ ವೈ ಶೀಘ್ರಗಾಮಿನಃ ||
ಕ್ರಿಯತಾಂ ನಗರಂ ಸರ್ವಂ ಕ್ಷಿಪ್ರಮೇವ ಸ್ವಲಂಕೃತಮ್ |
ಧೂಪಿತಂ ಸಿಕ್ತಸಮ್ಮೃಷ್ಟಂ ಪತಾಕಾಭಿರಲಂಕೃತಮ್ ||
ತತಃ ಪ್ರಹೃಷ್ಟಾಃ ಪೌರಾಸ್ತೇ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ರಾಜಾನಮಾಗತಮ್ |
ತಥಾ ಪ್ರಚಕ್ರುಃ ತತ್ಸರ್ವಂ ರಾಜ್ಞಾ ಯತ್ಪ್ರೇಷಿತಂ ತದಾ ||

There after having taken leave of his friend King Dasaratha started his return journey. Then he sent message through swift footed carriers . ' Let the whole city be decorated . Decorated with flags and banners'. Hearing the news of the return of the king the citizen were delighted and decorated accordingly.

ತತಃ ಸ್ವಲಂಕೃತಂ ರಾಜಾ ನಗರಂ ಪ್ರವಿವೇಶ ಹ |
ಶಂಖ ದುಂದುಭಿನಿರ್ಘೋಷೈಃ ಪುರಸ್ತ್ಕೃತ್ಯ ದ್ವಿಜರ್ಷಭಮ್||
ತತಃ ಪ್ರಮುದಿತಾಃ ಸರ್ವೇ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ತಂ ನಾಗರಾದ್ವಿಜಮ್ |
ಪ್ರವೇಶ್ಯಮಾನಂ ಸತ್ಕೃತ್ಯ ನರೇಂದ್ರೇಣೇಂದ್ರಕರ್ಮಣಾ ||
ಅಂತಃ ಪುರಂ ಪ್ರವೇಶ್ಯೈನಂ ಪೂಜಾಂ ಕೃತ್ವಾ ಚ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರತಃ|
ಕೃತಕೃತ್ಯಂ ತದಾತ್ಮಾನಂ ಮೇನೇ ತಸ್ಯೋಪವಾಹನಾತ್ ||

Then amid blaring of conches and kettle drums king Dasaratha entered the city keeping the Best of the Brahmins at the head of the procession. Seeing the king who is as powerful as Indra bringing the best
of the Brahmins, the citizen were delighted. Entering the palaces and having brought and worshipped the best of the Brahmins as ordained , the king felt as though he accomplished his objective.

ಅಂತಃಪುರಸ್ತ್ರಿಯಃ ಸರ್ವಾಃ ಶಾಂತಾಂ ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ ತಥಾಗತಮ್ |
ಸಹಭರ್ತಾ ವಿಶಾಲಾಕ್ಷೀಂ ಪ್ರೀತ್ಯಾsನಂದಂ ಉಪಾಗಮನ್ ||
ಪೂಜ್ಯಮಾನಾ ಚ ತಾಭಿಃ ಸಾ ರಾಜ್ಞಾ ಚೈವ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ |
ಉಪವಾಸ ತತ್ರ ಸುಖಿತಾ ಕಂಚಿತ್ಕಾಲಂ ಸಹರ್ತ್ವಿಜಾ ||

The ladies of the palaces too were delighted to see Shanta the wife of the Seer. The ladies of the palaces as well as Dasaratha worshipped Shanta . She spent some time there along with her husband

|| ಇತ್ಯಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡೇ ಏಕಾದಶ ಸರ್ಗಃ ||
